Built by farmers, for farmers.

UAWF SACCO is a member-owned savings and credit cooperative for farmers, livestock keepers and agricultural workers around Uganda, registered under the Cooperative Societies Act, Cap 107.

Our story

Why we came together

Farming income does not arrive every month. It comes at harvest, and it has to last until the next one. Most banks want a land title, a salary slip and months of paperwork before they lend a shilling. Many smallholder farmers, livestock keepers and farm workers across Uganda simply do not have these things.

UAWF SACCO was formed by farmers and agricultural workers who decided to solve this together. Every member saves a little, regularly. Those savings are pooled and lent back out as fair credit that suits farming: seed and fertiliser today, a dairy cow or a water tank tomorrow.

The SACCO belongs to its members, and every member has a say in how it is run.

What we stand for

  • Honesty

We keep clear, truthful records of every shilling saved and borrowed.

  • One member, one vote

Whether you save a little or a lot, your voice counts the same at our meetings.

  • Loans that follow the season

Repayment plans are built around planting and harvest, not a fixed office calendar.

  • Transparency

Rates, fees and decisions are explained in plain language, in the open.

  • Community care

We grow together, supporting members through good seasons and hard ones.

How it works

How a SACCO works

A SACCO is owned by the people who use it. Here is how your savings turn into support for fellow members, and back to you.

  1. 01

    Members save

Each member buys shares and saves regularly, weekly or monthly, in amounts they can manage.

  2. 02

    Savings are pooled

All savings are kept together safely, with clear records reported at every general meeting.

  3. 03

    Members borrow

The pooled funds are lent to members at fair rates, with repayment plans that follow the farming season.

  4. 04

    Benefits are shared

Interest paid on loans stays in the SACCO. Any surplus benefits members, as agreed at the general meeting.

How the SACCO is led

General Meeting of members

The highest authority. All members meet at least once a year to approve accounts, set policy and elect leaders.

Board of Directors

Elected by members to set direction, approve policies and oversee management on the members' behalf.

Supervisory Committee

Elected by members to check the books, review how the SACCO is run and report back at the general meeting.

Credit Committee

Reviews loan applications fairly and in line with the loan policy approved by members.

Management & staff

Run the office day to day: receiving savings, processing loans and keeping members' records.

Registration

Legally registered, and supervised

UAWF SACCO is registered under Section 6(1) of the Cooperative Societies Act, Cap 107, and is supervised by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Republic of Uganda.

Our current certificate is a probationary registration. This is the standard first stage for every newly registered cooperative society in Uganda: a two year period during which the Registrar confirms that the society is being run properly, before it can move on to full registration.

It does not mean the SACCO is temporary. It means we are a genuine, newly formed society being given the normal start that every SACCO goes through.
